The main promise of the digital humanities is the ability to perform scholarly studies at a much broader scale, and in a much more reusable fashion. The key enabler for such studies is the  availability ofsufficiently well described data. Linked Data, RDF and Semantic Web are popular buzzwords in tech-land and within CLARIAH. By enabling researchers to convert their data to RDF and use Linked Open Data technologies, it is not only possible to replicate findings but also to answer completely new research questions by easily linking different datasets. However, these techniques are not familiar to everyone and may seem quite daunting at first sight. This workshop aimsto lower the threshold for Humanities scholars to engage with these Linked Open Data techniques, in particular for those working with tabular data such as Excel or CSV.

The aim of this workshop is to get participants to actively explore the Semantic Web tools developed by the CLARIAH team. The workshop will start with a practical introduction of the digital tools that are being developed to enable scholars to share and link their datasets (see www.datalegend.net). Next, the participants will use one of their own datasets to work hands-on with these tools, with the assistance of several ‘tech’ members of the team. The benefit of this workshop is twofold: Humanities scholars will familiarise themselves with Semantic Web tools and Linked Open Data, while their experiences during the workshop will provide useful feedback to further improve the digital tools that are being developed within CLARIAH.
